HOUSE IN CHATHAM, NY

This unique and private home is designed to take advantage of its two acre hillside site and distant views. It’s livability and environmental sensitivity is evident through the quality of construction and materials. Warm, natural materials with natural finishes echo the various textures and colors in the wooded hillside.

The soaring space of the main Living area extends outward above the hillside through the glass wall and upward in its cathedral ceiling. Protected from summer heat gain and rainstorms, the south facing doors can remain open for cooling breezes. Likewise, in winter, this southern façade design captures the Sun’s energy and stores it in the solid floor, heating the interior space integrally with the in-floor radiant heat.

This “Great-room” also contains the dining space for casual living and entertaining and is adjacent to the “heart” of the home, the kitchen.
